Where did all the other people come from since Adam, Eve, Cain and Able were the first humans.
There are 2 plausible responses to this question: 1. The first 5 chapters of Genesis, leading to the Flood (including chapter 6), span over the 1600 year timeframe. That means that there are many details left out of the biblical story. Because of these sketchy details, we may assume that by the time of God’s conversation with Cain in Gen. 4, a few more inhabitants would have populated the planet. 2. The immediate context of Gen. 4:14 indicates that Cain is speaking about the future: “Today you are driving me from the land, and I will be hidden from your presence; I will [in future] be a restless wanderer on the earth, and whoever [in future] finds me will kill me.†God’s response in verse 15 clearly has this future orientation as well. Gen 4:15 “And the LORD said to him, “Therefore, whoever kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold.†And the LORD set a mark on Cain, lest anyone finding him should kill him.†This indicates his fear for some future harm that may come his way, knowing that more people would populate the world.
