Why the Prince of Tyre in Ezekiel 28:2?
The first couple in Eden allowed the one they were warned against to divide the race by believing the lies he told and the results are clear. Gen. 3:15 “And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.†This developed into one lineage trying to follow God, and another lineage rebelling against God since they had an incorrect picture of their Creator. This is all due to them having bought the lies of the adversary. These two groups had already split early, and it was in Satan’s interest to try corrupting the lineage that followed the true God. He attempted this by mingling the good with the bad. We are not referring to angels, in the knowledge that they are asexual and not able to procreate. This is clearly stated by Jesus in answering the issue of the wife who had seven brothers as consecutive husbands. Matt. 22:28 “Therefore, in the resurrection, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had her.†29Jesus answered and said to them, “You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God. 30For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels of God in heaven.†Gen. 6:1 “Now it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them, 2that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose.†In the group striving to follow God by mimicking His character, men arose and became types of God. Even as sinners they portrayed some aspects of the Greater Reality God. Joshua took his people into the Promised Land as the real Joshua that is Jesus will take us into His true Promised Land. Joseph saved his people whilst being surrounded by two persons. One of them lived and the other one died. In the line of typology, we see Jesus as being surrounded by two types in mankind. One kind chooses life and the other opts for death. The adversary, Satan, also has types or lackeys representing elements of his character and his government. He is seen as a serpent in the way he misled Eve in the Garden. He is portrayed as a dragon in Revelation. Rev 12:7 “And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, 8but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. 9So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.†In Revelation 13 we meet two beasts: one coming out of the water, and the next the false prophet out of the Earth; both being representatives of Satan. We also see in history, various individuals portraying the character of their god, Satan, and we see this in Isaiah 14: the king of Babylon, and in Ezekiel28: where we meet the prince of Tyre and we are given historic insight into what happened in heaven between God and one of the covering cherubs. Isa. 14:12 ““How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened the nations! 13For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north; 14I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.’†Eze. 28:12 ““You were the seal of perfection, Full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. 13You were in Eden, the garden of God; Every precious stone was your covering: The sardius, topaz, and diamond, Beryl, onyx, and jasper, Sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes Was prepared for you on the day you were created. 14“You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; You were on the holy mountain of God; You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones. 15You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, Till iniquity was found in you. 16“By the abundance of your trading You became filled with violence within, And you sinned; Therefore I cast you as a profane thing Out of the mountain of God; And I destroyed you, O covering cherub, From the midst of the fiery stones. 17“Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty; You corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor; I cast you to the ground, I laid you before kings, That they might gaze at you. 18“You defiled your sanctuaries By the multitude of your iniquities, By the iniquity of your trading; Therefore I brought fire from your midst; It devoured you, And I turned you to ashes upon the earth In the sight of all who saw you. 19All who knew you among the peoples are astonished at you; You have become a horror, And shall be no more forever.†’ †Typology is required by us, enabling the recognition of all the elements in the character of God, as do we require to recognise certain individuals as types of Satan as has been used above.
