Why are flowers placed on the coffin when our loved ones die?
People place flowers on coffins and on graves in honour and respect for the one who had died. It may be the deceased’s favourite flower, or often the typical flowers associated with funerals might be used. The idea was probably formed by the Greeks in that, flowers were put on a warriors grave within the thought process that should the flowers take root and flourish, the dead person had arrived in the afterlife and is doing well. We as Christians know that this is not the case and also, we know that everybody remains in the grave until the second coming. In our custom we do not use fake flowers as fresh flowers die off that forms a visual illustrating of what happening from life to death. The use of this may very well be different depending on the customs of the people where the deceased lived.
