What is the Trinity?
The word Trinity is not in the Bible and has almost become controversial as a so-called product of alternative forces but God says: Isa. 1:18 “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD†The Bible uses the word Godhead: Acts 17:29 “Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device,†Rom. 1:20 “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse†Col. 2:9 “For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.†The Bible uses the word Elohim for God and it is where we will have the idea of: let us make men unto our own image. This is seen as a quantitative plural and supports more than one. The standard text of the Jew when thinking of God is the following: Deut. 6:4 “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:†When using the Bible we have Genesis 24 where we see Abraham and he is a type of God the Father, Isaac as a type of God Jesus and the servant going to a faraway land to prepare a virgin for His master a type of God the Holy Spirit working on behalf of man. The virgin is the church and the Holy Spirit critical. Now we have info to suggest and support 3 or Trinity. Isa. 6:3 “And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.†The angels do this three times to acknowledge the Godhead. We also see with the baptism of Jesus the voice of God and the Holy Spirit present as three. The universal commission of Matthew 28: Matt 28:19 “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:†We also know that Satan was an insider in God’s presence and when he tries to mimic the Godhead he uses: Rev. 16:13 “And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.†Then by man’s reasoning the fact that three is the number of unconditional love the following: “Three is the essential numeric value of love. Where there is only one person, love cannot occur. Where there are two, each is the sole recipient of the other’s attention, giving a place for self-absorption. But the moment there are three, each recipient of any one’s love must also humbly defer attention to the third party, and each one is the third party to the other two. Pure selflessness can now occur by virtue of the fact that each one must love and be loved with both an exclusive and a divided interest. If God’s essential identity is traceable to solitary selfhood—which would be the case if Jesus in any sense had a point of beginning, and if the Holy Spirit does not eternally exist with distinct personhood—then love is not essential to God’s nature.†— Ty Gibson
