What is allowed on the Sabbath?

Dear Friend, this is a difficult but critical question. We live in an era where the world runs 24/7 for 365 days of the year. Mankind and animals are not seen as only profit and materialism. Let's look at what the Bible says about the subject. Exo. 20:8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. In it, you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. 11For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.” The words are clear and direct and all people and animals in your jurisdiction area have to comply. Matt. 12:12 “Of how much more value then is a man than a sheep? Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”. Luke 6:9 “Then Jesus said to them, “I will ask you one thing: Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy?” Then the Bible also speaks of: Luke 23:54 “That day was the Preparation, and the Sabbath drew near.” This suggests that Friday is used to preparing yourself for Sabbath and may mean: have you cleaned your shoes, is your shirt ironed. Is food prepared for the Sabbath? Sabbath should not catch anyone unawares, and that is why Paul says, to put away money the first day of the week so that you do not have to work with money on Sabbath. 1 Cor. 16:2 “On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections when I come.” The clearest direction comes from: Isa. 58: 13 “If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath, From doing your pleasure on My holy day, And call the Sabbath a delight, The holy day of the LORD honorable, And shall honor Him, not doing your own ways, Nor finding your own pleasure, Nor speaking your own words, 14Then you shall delight yourself in the LORD; And I will cause you to ride on the high hills of the earth, And feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father. The mouth of the LORD has spoken.” If one remembers that the Sabbath is not just another day: The Sabbath is the best news for man. God has has created us perfectly. He has redeemed us completely. He loves us immensely and He will restore us ultimately. With this experience, the Sabbath is a delight, a time to walk away from the world even its electronics, and to spend 24 hours with the Creator. He created a space in time on day seven and filled it with Himself. Do not miss your appointment!
