What food does the Bible declare as clean, and unclean? And about a healthy lifestyle?
God’s limiting the consumption of certain food was for health reasons to prevent the risk of diseases. It was by no means that God was keeping something good from the people. The devastation that the flood brought about caused this plan of God together with the fact that the people became very efficient sinners. In this time God was comfortable to allow their lifespan to be 120 years to use food not originally part of the fuel structure for mankind. From that perspective God says: Heb. 13:8 “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.†Mal. 3:6 “For I am the LORD, I change not;†Therefore God will not suddenly allow and make legal that which was prohibited for health reasons. The clean and unclean groups are clearly stated in the Bible by reading Lev. chapter 11 together with Deut. 14 that provides clear directions. The fact that a loving God will not abolish those restrictions later to harm his children in a world of sin. The idea that God has for us: John 10: 10 “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly†Our Creator does not want us to lose out on the best life has to offer, but any manufacturer of a machine adds a manual to confirm what is the best fuel to allow the machine as optimal as possible. Critical to also realise that: 1 Cor. 6:19 “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which is God’s.†We need to add another idea: 1 Cor. 10:30 “For if I by grace be a partaker, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks?†One then has to confirm that fresh out of the Creator’s hand the manual for these human machines confirms the following: Gen. 1:29 And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you, it shall be for food.†The life span of man and his direction away from his Creator and the destruction of his food source with the flood allowed man to use meat but later directions given on clean and unclean and also that blood and fat should be avoided. Only with modern science do we have information on why God for their own good withheld certain food components. Christ confirmed that we received talents and how we should use it to His glory and we are therefore not in a position to abuse our bodies by poor lifestyle choices. And with regard to the eating of fish by Jesus on the beach: John 21:9 “Then, as soon as they had come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid on it, and bread.†Jesus just performed a miracle for them to catch fish but he already had fish on the coals and no info where that came from and I will borrow from Graham Maxwell as he confirmed that the balance of chapter 21 was critical especially the conversation with Peter and therefore no need at this stage to advise on drastic changes in nutrition as to potentially allow the attention to drift in that direction. We do have information from writings of E G White to support that animal protein, cheese, etc. will really be a health hazard as we near the end of time and especially with the typology of the Elijah message: Elijah bread and water First prophetic Elijah: John the Baptist honey and locusta beans and vegetarian and therefore the support that people planning for heaven should also have an appetite for heaven. Get yourself fit for heaven now and have life and abundant life here on this earth. If one reads the history of Israel He declares that if they do certain things it will result in them living longer and healthier and we have info on health, hygiene, and general info to regulate man in his environment. Strange that it is general advice and especially if one realizes that the advice of the Creator was for man’s benefit. The food advice one is able to understand eg. Fish is clean if fins and scales present and balance unclean and one now realizes that the bottom feeders and filter feeders are unclean as they concentrate pollutants and toxins. Also with clean animals to be with split hoofs and to chew the cud and we now know the health risks of pork meat although split hoofs but not the extra pre-requisite with allergies and parasites putting the users at risk. It would seem that modern man sees everything like food and he does not adhere to the advice given in the Bible as if the Creator kept something good from the people and modern man will avoid the health risks attached to its use. Certain new testament quotations are used to suggest that unclean by some strange way is now suddenly acceptable ignoring texts like: Isa. 66: 17 “Those who sanctify themselves and purify themselves, to go to the gardens after an idol in the midst, eating swine’s flesh and the abomination and the mouse, Shall be consumed together,†says the LORD.†These do not sound to be food that God’s chosen people should be involved with. Apart from the suggestion that restrictions have been changed information from Acts reconfirm that not in the mind of New Testament Jew was pork suddenly healthy: Acts 10:11 “and saw heaven opened and an object like a great sheet bound at the four corners, descending to him and let down to the earth. 12 In it were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air. 13 And a voice came to him, “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.†14 But Peter said, “Not so, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common or unclean.†15 And a voice spoke to him again the second time, “What God has cleansed you must not call common.†If you follow this through, this does not allow unhealthy living but that the new conversions to Christianity should not be seen as unclean and Peter confirms that: Acts 10:28 “Then he said to them, “You know how unlawful it is for a Jewish man to keep company with or go to one of another nation. But God has shown me that I should not call any man common or unclean.: The Creator of man wrote the instruction manual for mankind to function well, and He confirms that certain foods are risky and He wants man to experience: John. 10:10 “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.â€
