Does under grace mean the law is not relevant anymore?
You only need grace if a law condemns you! Grace does not nullify the law it confirms the unchanging nature of law! Why do you think Jesus had to die on Calvary? The only reason was that God could not get rid of the law that was written with His own finger in stone! The grace bestowed upon us is the good news that we are able to claim His righteousness, by claiming Him as our Mediator! Grace that arrives without having the results of change in behaviour and/or works, is cheap grace that is certainly not taught in the Bible. 1 Cor. 15:3 “For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;†Rom. 6: 23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.†The symbolism of God writing on “tables of stone†has to alert the sinner to the unchanging nature of God’s law. The first table regulates our vertical relationship and the second table our horizontal relationships, factors of life that will remain relevant throughout eternity! Sinai was relevant as it caused His death! I suggest that you turn prayerfully to Psalm 119 and read the longest chapter in the Bible that is an ode to the law and the sheer beauty of it! The following verses point to the people who will be on God’s side: Rev. 12:17 “And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keeps the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.†Rev. 14:12 “Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.†Rev. 22:14 “Blessed are they that do his commandments that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.†None of these texts support that the commandments are done away with. In fact, it forms the constitution of the universe! Our World’s crisis began with sin and therefore, God will not save people comfortable to go on sinning. Without the law, we will not have a directive to make a choice here, and only those safe to save (as not to have Eve’s rebellious attitude) will be taken into eternity.
