Do we need to be born again?
How do we become part of a family? We are all born into a family to become Smith or Peters. In the realm of religion we are born heirs of Adam but we need to be sons of the second Adam! How is that accomplished? John 3:3 “Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.†4Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?†5Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.†Here Jesus confirms the need to be reborn and He also alludes to the need to be born of the Spirit. Matt. 3:11 “I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.†It is therefore clear that we choose to rebel against God, the Holy Spirit impresses us with the need for repentance. Now we publicly confess this change and the death of the old ‘man’ into the new life with Jesus by partaking in the baptism by immersion. We die as a sinner and stand up as a baby in Christ being led by His Spirit. Phil. 1: 6 “being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;†We have a visual picture of this walk by looking at the tabernacle service: We come through one Door that is Jesus Christ into the courtyard in need of Salvation. We see Him on the copper altar dying on our behalf (Golgotha) and we want to be sons and daughters of the King. We are now in need of the Christian walk in order to arrive in the Holy place. Through Bible study that is depicted by the table of bread, table of incense that is prayer, and a seven-branched candlestick that is the church we come to share Jesus by reflecting Him in our daily walk. As is clearly visible; the sprinkling of babies tend not to reflect this supernatural occurrence and is purely man’s invention.
