1 Cor. 15:5 Twelve used when only Eleven?
It would seem that it was custom to use twelve as a groepname for the disciples: John 20:24 “Now Thomas, called the Twin, (Didymus) one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came.†In this example John also refers to them as “twelve†although here they would only have been ten since Judas had already committed suicide, and Thomas was absent. This supports the idea of “twelve†being used as a “group name.†1 Cor. 15:5 “And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve†The use here by Paul years later, was a general term used to refer to the disciples of Jesus.
