Who did the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem?
In the book, Daniel 9; he prays to remind God that the 70 years of captivity in Babylon are about to lapse. Soon after this Cyrus gave a decree that the Jews may return to Palestine. There were three decrees in total. The books: Esra and Nehemia gives a full account of the events that followed. Esra was more involved in rebuilding the temple, while Nehemia (especially in chapter 3 of his book) we learn about the walls of the city that he was involved in rebuilding. The stories are fascinating in that; the work was done by returning Jews with sword in the one hand and tools in the other. The then inhabitants tried to manipulate the circumstances and functioned as lackeys for Satan. These events of the rebuilding are also prophesied in the 70-week prophecy of Dan. 9:24-27 and the 7 weeks foretold the duration of this rebuilding 49 years - or 7 prophetic weeks!
