With the 1780 dark day and moon of blood and 1833, star rain people became concerned and reminded people of Scripture. Joel 2:31 “The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the LORD.” This caused people to go and study the closed book of Daniel and Revelation Dan. 12:4 “But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.” William Miller and interdenominational people started to study the Bible the Millerite movement started plus the Great Advent movement and they came across: Dan. 8:14 “And he said to me, “For two thousand three hundred days; then the sanctuary shall be cleansed.” They interpreted the sanctuary as the earth, and that on Oct 22 1844 Jesus will return! Rev. 10 describes this bitter disappointment when eating this truth: Rev. 10:9 “So I went to the angel and said to him, “Give me the little book.” And he said to me, “Take and eat it; and it will make your stomach bitter, but it will be as sweet as honey in your mouth.” 10Then I took the little book out of the angel’s hand and ate it, and it was as sweet as honey in my mouth. But when I had eaten it, my stomach became bitter. 11And he said to me, “You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, tongues, and kings.” Most people are totally anti-religion now and left but a small group remained whilst continuing in their studying. Rev. 11:1 “Then I was given a reed like a measuring rod. And the angel stood, saying, “Rise and measure the temple of God, the altar, and those who worship there. 2But leave out the court which is outside the temple and do not measure it, for it has been given to the Gentiles. And they will tread the holy city underfoot for forty-two months.” They went back to study and was convinced that the time was correctly calculated but what they interpret to happen on that day was different and incorrect and by studying in Hebrew they realized that there was a heavenly sanctuary and it was a cleansing of the heavenly and that Jesus started His High Priestly ministry in heaven. This requires a detailed study of what happened in Israel and info in the book of Hebrews with the Day of Atonement activity and what the antitypical day will be. The few thousand people left still felt His return imminent but in 1863 they organized as the SDA church with Ellen White present with advice and input and she never held any office in the church she functioned as a messenger even more as a prophet and gave visions directing the church with for instance Health Ministry and education until 1915 when she died. She is the biggest female writer in the English language and also the most translated. She was the small light shining towards the big light; the Bible and, the Bible remain the only source of the SDA beliefs!
